Calculator assumptions & rules

Uses this entry’s AC formula, Dexterity cap and listed shield bonus. Magic AC already included in the entry is counted once. Features, spells, alternative AC formulas and exceptions to Strength penalties are excluded. You still need the required armor training or proficiency.

What Mithral Armor does

  • This armor starts at AC 15 and caps a positive Dexterity modifier at +2. A negative modifier still reduces AC.
  • It does not impose Stealth Disadvantage from the armor itself, which preserves more options for sneaking.
Mithral is a light, flexible metal. Armor made of this substance can be worn under normal clothes. If the armor normally imposes Disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks or has a Strength requirement, the mithral version of the armor doesn't. This is the Half Plate Armor variant.
