Mage Loot Generator

What a druid, a mage or an archmage carries, and what waits in the tower or the grove.

Roll treasure

Quick start:
Group

1 creature. Each one rolls pocket change on the table of its own CR; "no coins" creatures only set the lair's CR.

Lair hoard

Rolls on the hoard table of the strongest creature: CR 6, CR 5–10

Dice

Every creature rolls its own coins; one d100 picks the row of the lair's hoard table.

  • Rules as written. Every die follows the treasure tables in chapter 7 of the 2014 Dungeon Master's Guide: Individual Treasure, Treasure Hoards in four CR bands and Magic Item Tables A to I. Each roll shows the row it landed on, so you can check it against the book.
  • Your dice, not ours. Roll at the table and type every d100 and coin die in; nothing is decided for you unless you leave it empty.
  • Linked to the rules. A magic item opens its SRD card, a gem or art object its description, a creature its stat block.
  • Made for play. Lock the finds you like and reroll the rest, print item cards for your players, and share a link that replays the exact roll.
  • Free, no account. Every roll is made fresh in your browser.

How this generator works

A druid (CR 2) rolls Individual Treasure on the CR 0–4 table, a mage (CR 6) on CR 5–10 and an archmage (CR 12) on CR 11–16, so a wizard already carries more coin than a band of soldiers. The 2024 archmage's gear is a wand, its spellcasting focus.

A wizard's real treasure is where it studies. Tick Lair hoard to roll the tower or the study on the table of the strongest caster: for an archmage, the CR 11–16 hoard table has magic items on most rolls, with Magic Item Tables up to I.

Questions

Does a mage drop a spellbook?

The tables do not roll one: spellbooks are not treasure in the DMG tables. Most DMs leave the mage's spellbook in its study; spell scrolls can turn up from the Magic Item Tables.

Which table does an archmage's tower use?

The CR 11–16 hoard table, from the archmage's CR 12. With two mages beside it, the archmage still sets the table, as the strongest creature present.
