Monster Lair Loot Generator

Owlbears, manticores, medusas, hydras and worse: their lairs and the few that carry coins.

Roll treasure

Quick start:
Group

1 creature. Each one rolls pocket change on the table of its own CR; "no coins" creatures only set the lair's CR.

Lair hoard

Rolls on the hoard table of the strongest creature: CR 3, CR 0–4

Dice

Every creature rolls its own coins; one d100 picks the row of the lair's hoard table.

  • Rules as written. Every die follows the treasure tables in chapter 7 of the 2014 Dungeon Master's Guide: Individual Treasure, Treasure Hoards in four CR bands and Magic Item Tables A to I. Each roll shows the row it landed on, so you can check it against the book.
  • Your dice, not ours. Roll at the table and type every d100 and coin die in; nothing is decided for you unless you leave it empty.
  • Linked to the rules. A magic item opens its SRD card, a gem or art object its description, a creature its stat block.
  • Made for play. Lock the finds you like and reroll the rest, print item cards for your players, and share a link that replays the exact roll.
  • Free, no account. Every roll is made fresh in your browser.

How this generator works

Most monstrosities are beasts in all but name: owlbears, basilisks, griffons, hydras, rocs and purple worms carry nothing, and their loot is what their prey dropped in the lair. The thinking ones carry coins too: harpies, ettercaps, mimics, doppelgangers, manticores, phase spiders, winter wolves, driders, medusas, behirs and remorhazes roll Individual Treasure on the table of their CR.

Pick the creature and tick Lair hoard: the den rolls on the table of the strongest creature present, from CR 0–4 for an owlbear to CR 17+ for the tarrasque (CR 30).

Questions

Does an owlbear have treasure?

Not on it: with an Intelligence of 3 it carries nothing. Its den can hold what its victims dropped; tick Lair hoard to roll it on the CR 0–4 table.

Does a mimic carry loot?

It rolls Individual Treasure like any creature of its CR (2), on the CR 0–4 table: often the coins of whoever opened it last.

Treasure tables follow chapter 7 of the 2014 Dungeon Master's Guide.
